Alpaca Trekking

Our alpacas have enjoyed their winter rest, munching on tasty treats of carrots, swede, butternut squash , apples, parsnips, sweet potatoes and...Christmas trees!

They will enjoy the fresh shoots that will soon be appearing and will resume their task of 'lamb and hen protectors' when the new arrivals appear.

Come and join us for a relaxing trek around the countryside on our working farm, here in North Yorkshire. Take a couple of hours out of your usual routine to come and experience the true beauty of these enchanting animals.

Alpacas are gentle, intelligent and curious animals. They will respond to your mood and behaviour and are regularly used to work with children and adults with additional needs.

Please allow around 90 minutes. Minimum age 9 years.

Meet & Greet Experience

Take a couple of hours out of your usual routine to enjoy a Meet & Greet Experience. As we are based on a busy working farm you will be accompanied by a member of staff who will be only too happy to answer your questions.

Meet & Greet Experiences are not just for children! Who knows, your visit might coincide with seeing a lamb being born or an alpaca unpacking!

All children must be accompanied. Sturdy, preferably waterproof footwear, is advised. No minimum age. Allow 45 minutes for your visit.

Craft Workshops

Have you ever fancied learning the art of needle felting or wet felting?

Workshops take place throughout the year in the converted dairy. Just ask in the tearoom for details of any upcoming classes.

Workshops run throughout the year, daytime or evening, but not weekends. Light refreshments are provided.

What to Know

A guide to help make your day unforgettable.

Meet Our Animals

Yes, they all have names because they are our pets – and they are alpacas, not llamas!

Casper

Head of the herd and one of our first alpacas. He arrived here from Lancashire with his half brother Rollo.

Rollo

A sensitive alpaca yet lovely boy to walk. Rollo is very happy to let his brother Casper take the lead and will just go with the flow.

Ferdinand

Fondly known as 'Ferdy', he is the smallest alpaca here. He's a lovely alpaca but can suffer with 'little man syndrome'.

Coco

He's a gentle giant at Elmet Alpacas. Although one of the tallest alpacas here, he's an absolute gentleman to walk.

Elena

Was the first cria born here. She was spoilt to bits as a baby and she knows she holds a very special place in our hearts. Our home bred Tomboy.

Dave

Dave is such a character! We love him to bits. Just like Coco, he's very well mannered when out on a trek. A pure gentlemen.

Angelique

Our Prima Donna, and big sister to Elena, and they are complete opposites in chraracter. While Elena is our Tomboy, Angelique absolutely hates mud!

Skye

Skye is such a lady. Skye never puts a foot wrong. Although she isn't part of our trekking herd, she's exceptionally gentle and very intuitive.

Pablo

One of our main trekking herd. Pablo has a fabulous fleece - in warmer weather we often see him paddling in the water trough to cool down.

Carmen

Proud matriarch of the female herd. She is such a character! We love her to bits.

Raffy

An amazing alpaca, Raffy is able to intuitively know if any visitors are visually impaired and acts as a guide dog, gently leading visitors around.

Twinkle

One of the friendliest Ewes imaginable.
